******** AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT********

August 20, 2020

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I feel it is safe to say that we have never experienced returning to school quite like we will for the 2020-21 school year.  We recognize that there is fear, anxiety, worry, and concern surrounding sending your child back to a traditional school setting.  Our district feels it is important to communicate with you what to expect when school begins September 1 when it comes to common concerns associated with COVID-19.  We hope these points clarify some questions you have, but always know, we welcome your questions/concerns and if you should have them, please reach out to your child’s individual school.

  1. Each school will have a designated “sick” room which will be staffed by trained personnel to monitor students when needed.
  2. All students and staff will be administered temperature checks each morning.  If someone has a temperature of 100.4 or over, he/she must return home and monitor symptoms. Our school system will follow CDC guidelines as they are presented at any given date/time.
  3. All students and staff are required to wear an appropriate mask while at school.
  4. Social distancing will be enforced on all campuses to the extent that is reasonably possible.
  5. Our custodial staffs will continue to be diligent in sanitizing all high contact areas and classrooms in an effort to eliminate spread of COVID-19.
  6. If a case of COVID-19 is confirmed at a school, all steps directed by the Regional Health Center will be followed to determine exposure, close contact, and steps to take to keep everyone safe.
  7. In the event that a case of COVID-19 is confirmed at school, the parents of students who are deemed to have been in close contact with the exposed person will receive a personal phone call from the school within a reasonable amount of time.
  8. In order to continue to battle COVID-19, it is imperative that parents/guardians monitor the health of their student each and every day.  WHEN IN DOUBT, PLEASE STAY OUT!  All of our schools have been instructed to work with families concerning academic plans when a parent is choosing to keep a child at home and monitor symptoms.

As always, we thank you for your continued support of our school district as we navigate through unprecedented times.  Your child’s health and safety are our number one priority and we will do all that we can to make this the best school year possible!

                                                                              Sincerely,

                                                                              Johnny R. Rowland, Jr., Superintendent
